The Big 3: Marketing, Fundraising and PR

Learn how to integrate them all seamlessly in this 2-minute video from our “Insider Tips” series!

From Shellie Speer, Senior VP, BDI Academy

What are the Big 3 in development? Marketing, fundraising and public relations make up the three main pieces of the puzzle, working hand in hand to achieve the goals of your development team – and your organization as a whole.

And just to make sure we’re all on the same page, here’s a quick overview of the purpose of each piece:

  • Fundraising is the coordination of campaigns that bring in donations for your organization.
  • Marketing identifies and enhances your branding, helping to lessen donor confusion and promote consistency in your messaging.
  • Public relations is all about communicating a feel-good message about your operations while protecting your organization’s integrity.

Though they each have unique goals and strategies, every one is equally important to your ministry, your donors and your community.

The decisions a donor makes can be won or lost in any of these areas. That’s why it’s critical that marketing, fundraising and PR work together for the benefit of your organization. Accomplishing this synergistically requires good communication and proper planning as your team coordinates their messaging across all of these touchpoints.

To help your organization keep these three areas working together seamlessly, I’ve put together a series of videos called “Insider Tips.” These helpful videos cover some of my most popular training and consulting sessions: Direct Mail. Major Donors. Planned Giving. Volunteers. PR and media relations. And more!

Each is just a few minutes long, but they’re packed full of ideas you can implement at your organization. And every one comes with a free strategy guide you can download and print to gain even more insights on the topic.
